Prosper Walnut Grove falls short against ESOD

Prosper, Texas – Prosper Walnut Grove football team faced yet another setback in their journey during the Forthcoming Game against Episcopal School of Dallas (ESOD). Despite boasting their largest fourth-quarter lead of the season, the Wildcats couldn’t sustain their momentum and suffered a 49-40 defeat.

Walnut Grove appeared promising when they held a 40-28 lead. This highlight included an impressive 14-yard touchdown catch by junior John Hutson, thrown by junior Braden Butler. However, as the game progressed, a series of penalties disrupted their rhythm. Notably, during ESOD’s first series of the fourth quarter, Walnut Grove was penalized for personal fouls on three consecutive plays.

Taking advantage of these mistakes, ESOD pulled off a rapid 18-point spree in less than a minute of gameplay. Jake Gierkey’s 50-yard touchdown pass to Harrison Cates pushed ESOD ahead 46-40 with only 6:11 left on the clock. Walnut Grove, struggling to regain their footing, couldn’t produce a comeback and committed four turnovers in the last quarter alone.

Tommy Allison, the Wildcats’ head coach, acknowledged the team’s mistakes and emphasized learning from these experiences. He stated, “This one hurts, but it’s something we can learn from…at the end of the day it’s about winning ballgames.”

The Wildcats’ next game is scheduled against El Paso Cathedral at Lubbock Cooper’s Pirate Stadium. Allison concluded with a message about growth, saying, “We’ve got to learn from what happened here…We’ve got to learn how to finish.”
